….Just a reminder to everyone that the hour long TV special on the band will air Saturday July 2nd on CMT – not sure what time. Check your TV listings.
We’re all very excited about this. CMT did a great job. For those of you who have not seen the band (or even know about the band), this is your chance to get acquainted. This special includes footage from our concerts around the world, interviews with Kevin and the members of the band, and even old footage of the beginnings from 1988. Yes, we’ve been around that long. For the last five years we have amped up intensity while remaining under the radar.
Our 3rd CD will be released in Europe this summer and in the USA next year. It is titled “From Where I Stand”. Check out our website for the other two previous CDs – “Untold Truths” and “Turn It On”.

Kevin (as most of you already know) is going to be in the new Superman movie which will start filming near Chicago this summer. We’re hoping that the band will play a few shows while he’s in the Midwest in August. We miss the Midwest – haven’t played around there for quite a while – although we will be in Minneapolis for one show (a benefit) in July. Check out our tour schedule.
After our September run in Europe, Kevin heads to Romania to film a mini series for The History Channel – the real story of the Hatfields and McCoys. Why Romania?
The movie Cold Mountain was filmed there and apparently the countryside resembles the area around the Kentucky and West Virginia border where the Hatfields and McCoys started their feud. He’ll be there from the middle of October to the middle of December.
The Modern Westerners will spend some time in Romania while Kevin’s there. We’ll use it as a home base – play a few shows and perhaps begin recording an “all-acoustic” CD – something we’ve wanted to do for a long time. More on that later.

1-hour special about Kevin Costner & Modern West on CMT
CMT has just finished editing their documentary on the history of KCMW which will air on July 2nd. There is a lot of amazing footage of the band in its infancy and great live footage of our world wide performances over the last 5 years including the nightmare at Camrose when the stage collapsed in the path of a tornado. You’ll see interviews with all the Modern Westerners (mainly Kevin) and even some long ago footage of the earlier version of Modern West –Roving Boy – back in the 1980’s when we filmed a commercial for Japan. Keep your eyes peeled for it. Watch the CMT promo video below.
Academy-Award winner director and actor, Kevin Costner and his Modern West band, nine-time Grammy Award winner, Sheryl Crow, Kid Rock, Motley Crue, Charlie Daniels and Toby Keith are some of the exciting, all-star guest performers headlining this year’s Cheyenne Frontier Days, the oldest outdoor rodeo in the world. Hosted in Cheyenne, Wyoming’s historic capital, Cheyenne Frontier Days will take place from July 22-31, 2011.
Showcasing nine Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA) rodeos with nine daily performances featuring over 40 bulls and 70 saddle and bareback broncs, CFD will also feature frolicking Wild West extravaganzas, foot-stomping concerts, cookouts, pancake breakfasts and plenty of bronco-busting action and entertainment throughout the nine day event.
“We are thrilled to have such stellar Pro Rodeo champions and celebrity guests at this year’s Cheyenne Frontier Days including Sheryl Crow and actor, Kevin Costner, who will be performing with his Modern West band,” says Chuck Coon, Media Manager.
The history of Costner’s Modern West band began over 20 years ago when the Dances With Wolves director/actor met musician, John Coinman in a dirty, downtown warehouse in Los Angeles during an acting workshop. Though Coinman had an intense interest in acting Costner’s interest in music possessed equal fervour. They became friends and began to play and write music with another friend, Blair Forward. The trio went on to form Modern West, with many of their shows featuring their original material as well as other songs written by some of America’s music luminaries….
Kevin Costner will star in “The Hatfields and McCoys,” a new miniseries from cable’s History network that will retell the story of the feuding families from the late 19th century American South.
The miniseries, eyed for a 2012 premiere, will be produced by Leslie Greif, best known as a co-creator of “Walker, Texas Ranger.”
A spillover from the American Civil War, the Hatfield-McCoy feud started in 1865 after a member of the McCoy family, which mainly fought for the Union, was murdered by a band of ex-Confederates that was said to include “Devil” Anse Hatfield, whom Costner will portray. (Historians now believe that Devil Hatfield in fact was home ill when the murder took place.) The killing touched off a 25-year feud that led to gruesome revenge killings and eventually involved the U.S. Supreme Court…
The Modern Westerners head to California at the end of June to finish rehearsals for our July concerts in Russia, Canada and the US. We’ll be on the road and in the air for most of the month. But while we’re at Kevin’s we will do another live webcast. We’ll announce the exact time later but it will be between the 28th and the 30th of June.
See You Around Sometime…..
